PTFE and FEP are comparable in their material properties. The main difference between PTFE and FEP is mainly in the maximum use temperature and the color. PTFE is milky / white and FEP is clearly transparent.
Material Properties:
Lower melting temperature of ptfe
Flexible than ptfe
Clear transparent
Low dielectric constant (insulating)
Chemically inert
Very low friction
No attachment
Uv resistant (does not age)
Not hygroscopic
FDA approval
Applicable from -200C to + 205C
FEP options:
Hoses
Odour sampling bags
Shrink tubing
Bellows
Welding wire
Foil
Coating
FEP Foil
FEP foil is the abbreviation for Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Polymer. FEP is also known as Teflon® type, but this is not entirely correct. Teflon® FEP is a brand name of Dupont where FEP is a material type and therefore also has other products.
FEP is a somewhat more favourably priced polymer in comparison with PFA and contains very similar PTFE and PFA properties in terms of chemical resistance, non-stick and dialectic properties. FEP film is completely unaffected by UV light and has a UV transmission of more than 97%, making FEP film an ideal material for applications in UV technology.
Fluorinated thylene propylene was discovered by the chemical company Dupont and is sold under the brand name Teflon FEP. Other well-known brands include Neoflon FEP from Daikin and Dyneon FEP from 3M.
Characteristics:
Excellent thermal stability (usable in a very wide temperature range - 200 C to + 200 C)
Chemical inertia, resistant to almost all chemicals such as strong acids, strong alkali, salts and organic solvents
Anti-stick properties, the lowest surface energy of all plastic films, exhibits excellent non-stick properties, for example as a release film for molds.
Electric reliability, high electrical insulation characterized by a low dielectric constant and dissipation factor. A high dielectric strength over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.
Resistant to weather influences, resistant to outside conditions, with unchanged mechanical and physical properties even after more than 10 years
Flammable, does not burn in air or gas with an oxygen concentration and less than 95%
Very transparent, transparent with excellent transidification of ultraviolet rays and visible light.
